Meet Loki, our rescue dog and my favorite running companion. This is her story, from a very naughty puppy to the magnificent dog she is today.

She is named after Loki, the Norse god of mischief, and she lives up to the name. We do realize it is a bit of a boy’s name. In our defense, Loki crosses gender boundaries in the myths, even taking the form of a mare and giving birth to Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged horse. That is our naming logic, anyway.

Loki is about 3 years old. We estimate she was born in April 2023, so we chose as her birthday.

Her first day home

We adopted Loki through S.O.S Pets Israel, an Israeli animal rescue organization that helps homeless dogs and cats find families through foster care and adoption. That is where our story together began.

Her first day home. The beginning of everything.

A Lab mix, with a little mystery

We think Loki is a Labrador mixed with something else, but we do not know what. She is big for a Lab, weighing around 80 lbs. Whatever the mix, she is entirely Loki.

The puppy years: evidence attached

Loki was a naughty puppy. If you need proof, here she is making off with a cup. The innocent expression was already very well practiced.

Caught in the act. Absolutely no regrets.

Growing up in Tel Aviv

Somewhere along the way, that mischievous puppy grew into a magnificent dog. Same curious spirit, much bigger smile.

A little grass, a big smile, and Tel Aviv behind her.

My favorite running partner

These days, Loki loves going on runs with me. She also loves chasing the local fauna, so we do not always agree on the route. The puppy mischief is still in there.

Harness on. Running shoes on. Ready to go.

The Seattle chapter

Now the adventures continue in Seattle: new routes, new smells, and a whole new cast of local fauna to be very interested in. I am lucky to have her by my side.

New city. Same Loki.
